As the 1999 movie famously quotes, “the first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club.”

And no one involved in a massive rumble Friday night in Brampton is talking.

But a massive fight did happen and at least one person was hurt.

“I can confirm that we did receive a call on Friday, August 9, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., to the parking lot area of the plaza located at Great Lakes Boulevard and Bovaird Drive in Brampton for reports of a large number of vehicles driving recklessly in the parking lot,” Peel Regional Police spokesperson Richard Chin said Saturday.

A video posted to X shows many cars in a parking lot and a crowd of young men engaged in fights – some of whom can be seen on the ground receiving blows to the head.

“Upon police arrival, an adult male was located who had minor injuries as a result of an altercation,” Chin said. “He was treated at the scene by EMS and left the area as he did not wish to provide any information to investigating officers.”

More silence.

Did anybody witness this? Were @PeelPolice called ? https://t.co/CVEIopfrHh

It is reminiscent of a similar brawl captured at Ridgeway Plaza in Mississauga at the corner of Ridgeway Blvd. and Eglinton Ave. on June 16.

It was much the same issue. Fights were caught on camera and spoken of by witnesses, but the participants cleared before police arrived on scene.

In that case, police did not receive any calls.

There have been other cases of large crowds gathering in mall parking lots and trouble ensuing.

But when it comes to these fights, no one is talking – similar to what Brad Pitt’s character Tyler Durden said about the rules of Fight Club.
